React OS 0.3.4!

22 Jan

WOOT! it looks like React OS 0.3.4 was finally released today! From the Release notes:

We are pleased to announce the release of the next version of ReactOS in the 0.3 series. This is a culmination of the last 3 months of development, and some significant progress has been made in various areas.

Maybe this version will work on my computer! I’m really excited about this project and they seem to finally be moving forward.

If you want to see what React OS looks like take a look at the screenshots available on the project page. Once you’ve done that give it a download, I know I will be.

So you got it to boot into the ReactOS installer? I’m not sure if that is what you are saying or not. If not, did you just make a cd with a copy of the iso on it or did you actually burn the image to the disc? (you have to tell your burning software that you want to burn the image of the iso. You can’t just put the iso on a data disc)

If you did that right and you did get it to boot into the ReactOS install I wouldn’t be to surprised if it doesn’t install right. ReactOS still has a lot of issues with hardware (though I haven’t used the newest version). Most of the machines I tried to boot it on would just freeze at the start up screen. .

Thanks for the earliest response. i have burned the image to the disc. but when I tried to boot with the cd . It said it’s not a bootable media. So i tried to search for a forum where I can post it. If you have a cd which is bootable react os can you send me to me dear.
    Regards.

Are you positive you burned it correctly? It sounds like you simply made a data disk with the image file on it. Try burning it again. Make sure to tell your burning software that you are burning a iso (it should have an option for that. It will then ask you for the location of the file. What burning software are you using? If you are using the software built into windows I’m not sure if you can burn images. If so try or whatever else you can find). If you have in fact burnt it correctly the first time and it (or second time and it still won’t boot) I would suggest that you try redownloading the iso and trying again.

Hello thanks for the reply. i will explain it to how i burned my cd. i went to the burn using iso option and choose the location where the iso file is kept and after selecting it . it was directly burning into the cd. after the burning is over i tried to test it. as soon as i inserted in my drive the icon of my cd drive changed to the react os icon and there a window pop-up came from where i can install react os. when i clicked on the option “install reactos”
it said it will not run and you have to reboot the maching and boot it from cd-drive. According to the message i rebooted the machine and tried to boot it with cd as soon it was reading my cd for a while and after 1 min. or so it said it’s not a bootable media. That’s the problem i am facing. Hope to have a solution to it.
    Thanks & Regards.

ReactOS is a very good idea, but I wouldn’t use it until it’s serious errors & bugs are sorted out. Installation is buggy, quite often won’t work & corrupts it’s own files sometimes.

Sometimes installation will work, sometimes it won’t. I installed it on a PC & a few virtual machines. It worked on some, but not on others. It is a fantastic idea & it really will work in the near future, but I won’t use it till it’s a bit more stable.
